It doesn’t matter if you’ve decided to travel to the north because it’s vacation time now and you want to give the kids a unique experience, or if you just feel like breaking the routine and changing the atmosphere a bit, it doesn’t matter if you’re traveling as a couple or with the whole family, or even if you want to retreat into yourself and be alone with nature, there is nothing like the northern streams to do that. The north offers an amazing concentration of beautiful streams, and the Carmel area is a region that cannot be skipped when looking for just that.
So here is a concentration of streams in the north that you cannot miss if you are coming to the area, a concentration of beautiful streams that offer you the nature of the Land of Israel at its best.
Starting with Nahal Sefunim
No matter what season of the year you decide to travel, all you need is to catch a nice day, take food and drink with you, and of course a lot of good spirits. Nahal Sefunim is an excellent trail to start with, and it offers you a beautiful and mainly green trail less than an hour from the center, a unique view that you don’t see every day, and the bonus – a prehistoric cave. It is important to know that there are bats in the cave that hibernate during the winter, so entry is prohibited between November 1 and April 1. The length of the trail is about 4 kilometers.
Continuing with Nahal Ahuza
You have probably heard of the Ahuzat neighborhood even if you are not from the Haifa area, and indeed, the local stream is named after the neighborhood. This is also a stream suitable for the whole family, individuals, and couples, and it runs for about 3.5 kilometers from the center of Carmel to the west. You go down a short and steep descent and then reach a shaded stream bed where you can stop for a particularly enjoyable picnic (don’t forget to collect the trash) and continue to a path that leads to rich vegetation, an intriguing trail, and stunning waterfalls.
Heading slightly south to Nahal Yagur
After finishing with Nahal Ahuzat, you can head southeast and reach Nahal Yagur. Nahal Yagur is a stream adjacent to the nearby Kibbutz Yagur, and it has several waterfalls and a beautiful view of the entire valley area. It has myrtle bushes growing in it, and therefore its second name is Wadi Shomeria, and it offers circular trails, making it very convenient to reach by car, hike, and continue.
Ending with Nahal Oren
Nahal Oren is another stream that cannot be missed when coming to the area and when you want to enjoy several streams together. Nahal Oren offers several trails of varying difficulty levels, and you need to know in advance what you choose, especially if you have small children or elderly people with you.
Nahal Oren is a particularly enjoyable end to a wonderful hike among the streams in this area, a hike that combines amazing views, unique vegetation, many animals, and lots of green for the eyes. You can combine several attractions in such a hike, it all depends on the length of the hike, accommodation in the area, and the comfort of the participants in the hike.
