
A circular walking trail in the wetlands and rich vegetation on the outskirts of Kiryat Bialik.
Ein Afek Nature Reserve is a small nature reserve where the sources of the Neeman stream spring. The reserve has a circular walking trail between water pools and a Crusader mill, and in winter you can find many water birds staying in the reserve for rest. For hiking enthusiasts, you can also climb to the summit of Tel Afek, from which there is a panoramic view, and admire the blooming of the crocuses in the middle of winter. Climbing the hill is recommended in winter and spring, and in the rest of the reserve it’s worthwhile to walk all year round.
The visit to the reserve takes about two to three hours, including necessary breaks for observing the flora and fauna in the reserve.
The convenient access to the trail for those coming from the south is through the Carmel Tunnels. Drive on the coastal road until the Haifa South Interchange and continue according to the signs through the Carmel Tunnels to the exit at the Kiryat Interchange. From here, continue on Highway 22 (Kiryat bypass) until the Bialik Interchange, and turn according to the signs towards Kiryat Bialik. At the junction with Highway 4 (Ha’sderot Street), turn right and after hundreds of meters turn right again onto Tel Street and continue according to the signs to Ein Afek Nature Reserve. For residents of Haifa, you can enter the tunnels at the No’eh Sha’anan Interchange and continue as described above.
For those coming from the Acre area and north, access to the trail is from Highway 4, about 900 meters south of the northern entrance to Kiryat Motzkin and Kiryat Yam.
