10 important tips for road safety in the Carmel Tunnels – and in general…

We, at the Carmel Tunnels, do everything to ensure your safety while traveling in the tunnel. Keep these simple rules – and you will arrive home safely, easily, and quickly.

1. Maintain a sufficient distance, both from the vehicle in front and from the vehicle behind. If a vehicle is tailgating you, maintain double the recommended distance from the vehicle in front. Keeping distance is one of the most important rules for safe driving on the road.

2. Minimize lane changes, especially unnecessary lane changes. Be alert to other cars making lane changes.

3. When identifying a malfunction, immediately activate the hazard lights. Pull over at a point that allows for a safe stop (in the Carmel Tunnels, there are safety bays for emergency stops every 250 meters).

4. Once a month, after refueling, check the tire pressure and ensure that the pressure is correct and suitable for the type of vehicle you are driving.

5. Even when the air conditioning is on, occasionally open a window and let fresh air into the car. Fresh air will prevent headaches and unnecessary fatigue. If you feel tired, take a refreshing break.

6. Do not leave heavy objects loose in the car. It is recommended to place items in the trunk. If you must transport equipment such as a suitcase or box in one of the seats, you can secure them to ensure they do not pose a hazard in case of an emergency.

7. Always wear a seatbelt both in the front and in the back, even on short trips close to home.

8. When it rains heavily, water accumulation under the wheels can cause loss of control of the vehicle, skidding, and spinning. Be sure to drive carefully and attentively on rainy days.

9. Ensure proper tire pressure and wear – a proper tire saves lives.

10. When driving in the Carmel Tunnels, do not exceed the speed limit in the tunnels. Turn on your lights, remove sunglasses, and do not use your mobile phone while driving in the tunnel.
