Starting from January 1, 2020, the travel rate for trucks weighing up to 12 tons will be reduced by 20%.
In August 2015, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced a national plan to reduce air pollution in the Haifa Bay area. One of the steps to reduce pollutant emissions is to encourage truck traffic in the Carmel Tunnels, and therefore a pilot program was decided upon, in which heavy vehicle traffic in urban areas of Haifa will be reduced, with the aim of decreasing the amount of pollutants in the city. For this purpose, the Carmel Tunnels joined forces with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Transportation to formulate a benefit of 40% discount on the travel rate for registered trucks up to 12 tons, which will be granted for five years – until 2020.
Starting from January 1, 2020, the benefit is for registered trucks weighing up to 12 tons, which will enjoy a 20% discount on the toll rate.
