The Carmel Tunnels implement a variety of methods and actions to maintain the safety of you, the drivers, in accordance with the strictest international standards used in the world:
- A control center staffed 24/7 by a professional and skilled team that monitors with the help of cameras and other advanced technological aids along the Carmel Tunnels roads
- Direct emergency phone calls to the control room, to report and receive a response to any malfunction
- Electronic direction signs for guidance and information transfer to drivers
- Automatic monitoring of events inside the tunnels
- Gas monitoring systems
- Fire and smoke detection systems
- Ventilation systems
- Public address systems
- Emergency bays every 250 meters
- Emergency pedestrian crossings in emergencies every 250 meters

Your Safety
We do everything we can to keep you safe while traveling through the tunnel. Follow a few simple rules on your part – and you will arrive home safely.
- The maximum speed in the tunnel is 80 km/h. In some parts the speed limit varies according to signage.
- Lights must be turned on when driving through a tunnel
- Sunglasses must be removed when traveling through a tunnel
- Do not use a mobile phone or navigation device while driving
- Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank
- Make sure your vehicle is in good condition before driving through the tunnel
- When a fault is detected, flashing lights are activated If you are unable to drive out of the tunnel, park in one of the bays and turn off the engine
- In case of fire detection, try to exit the tunnel If you are unable to do so, pull over, preferably in an emergency bay, turn off the engine, locate the nearest fire extinguisher and try to put out the fire using it Contact the control room and follow their instructions
- If the source of the fire is behind you, drive out of the tunnel
- In the event of an accident: Pull your vehicle into the emergency bay if possible, activate flashing alarm lights, contact the control room and follow their instructions
- Listen to the Tunnel Frequency 107.5 FM Haifa Radio – for important updates in case of an emergency
- Follow and act on the electronic signage in the tunnel
- Keep your hands on the wheel the entire time you are driving through the tunnel
- Do not stop or slow down suddenly, except in the emergency bays designated for that purpose
- Maintain the speed limit in tunnels
- Stay refreshed and alert even during hours when there is less traffic in the tunnel
Important Information:
- Traffic in the Carmel Tunnels is one-way only
- Stopping on the travel lanes is prohibited (except in an emergency)
- U-turns are prohibited
- Entry into tunnels by vehicles carrying hazardous materials is prohibited by law
- The tunnel has a height restriction of up to 4.6 meters and a width restriction of up to 3 meters
