Routes and Rates
A short walking route that combines walking between nature and an urban landscape. The route itself passes under the Carmel Tunnels, allowing a rare glimpse into the infrastructure and area where the roads pass. The route does not go on the roads themselves and is therefore very safe.
Under the bridges of the Carmel Tunnels interchange, heading towards the Neve Sha’anan neighborhood and the Grand Canyon, a convenient and stunning walking path is hidden. The beginning of the route is at the back side of the “Grand Canyon” and continues into the old road layout alongside the Heroes Stream. The route combines the urban landscape with the stunning and familiar nature of Mount Carmel.
At the “Grand Canyon” interchange, we will drive towards the Neve Sha’anan neighborhood until we reach the “Paz” gas station. We will turn left onto Yochanan Ratner Street. Just before the vehicle tunnel in the middle of the street, we will park the car and descend the stairs to the route. We will continue down the stairs to under the bridges of the Carmel Tunnels interchange and walk along the marked path in red and green into the wadi where the Heroes Stream flows. At the end of the paved path, there are benches where we can rest and watch the stunning combination of nature with modernity and development. After resting, we will move away from the interchange bridges and walk along the old access road down the stream’s channel on the mountainside. We will witness a breathtaking view of the thicket and small waterfalls not far from the new Heroes Stream road.
The route is less suitable for families, but for architecture and nature enthusiasts interested in the project and infrastructure who want to take a close and in-depth look. The walking duration is about half an hour and its length is about a kilometer.
Directions from the Carmel Tunnels:
From the north: ascent at the end of the first segment of the tunnel, turn towards Neve Sha’anan, drive to the Paz gas station and enter Yochanan Ratner Street 12.
From the south: ascent at the end of the first segment of the tunnel, exit towards Neve Sha’anan and drive to the Paz gas station and enter Yochanan Ratner Street 12.
